Get to know your complex carbs

Many people are of the mistaken belief that you need to cut out carbs as much as possible to lose weight and cut down on fat. However, carbohydrates are an extremely important part of a balanced diet. The key is not to cut out carbs, but to eat the right carbs.

Carbs deliver your body the energy it needs to make it through the day and encourage a healthy nervous system. However, not all carbs are created equal. There are two main categories of carbs: simple and complex. Simple carbs release the energy quicker and rapidly increase blood sugar—think cookies, candies, packaged cereal or anything with white flour.

You want to emphasize complex carbs in your diet. These include some fruits and vegetables, Greek yogurt, whole grains and other types of carbs that might take a little longer to digest, but will provide longer-lasting boosts of energy.

Go lean with your meats

You need plenty of protein in your diet to help you build and maintain muscle. However, unused proteins turn into fat. If you exercise a lot, you might not have to worry about this. But in general, you should opt for leaner meat so you don’t have to worry about your body storing too much protein and it turning into fat. Eggs, cheeses, lean meats, beans, nuts and seeds are all ideal.

This doesn’t mean you can’t eat any fats at all—they are still a necessary part of your diet. You should just make sure you control your fat intake and don’t overdo it.

Develop a custom nutrition plan

We strongly recommend working with a professional nutritionist to develop a custom nutrition plan that will work for you. Everyone’s body is different, so having a personalized plan will ensure you can get the results you are looking for while also taking your lifestyle into account. It also allows you to take your own genetics into account as well, which can play a role in how your body responds to certain nutrients.

These are just a few of the tips we have that will help you look and feel your best in a bikini this summer.
